Description

The Lao–Thai Railway Project (Phase II) extends rail connectivity from Thanaleng Station to the new Vientiane Station, covering a 7.5-kilometer section across urban and peri-urban areas of Vientiane Capital. Funded by the Thai government through NEDA, this project is a vital component of regional railway integration. Connected Consultant Sole Co., Ltd., working with Lao Global Engineering and Development Consultants, conducted the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), which evaluated resettlement impacts on six villages, forest encroachment near the Dongphosy area, and disruptions to local transport and agricultural activities. Public consultations confirmed community support, and mitigation measures were developed to address noise, dust, and traffic safety during construction. The railway will improve logistics, stimulate economic activity, and reduce reliance on road freight.
